Please note that it is LSLAP policy not to give legal advice over the telephone, fax, or email. While you may have an extremely urgent question or legal problem, because we are students and not members of the professional bar, we simply cannot give legal advice over the telephone. There are, however, a number of services available which may be able to provide the answers you're looking for:
The LawLINE
604-408-2172 (Lower Mainland), 1-866-577-2525 (toll free in BC). After your call connects, press "7" to reach to LawLINE.
Staffed by lawyers and paralegals, the LawLINE provides information, referrals as well as legal advice (though not representation and only if you meet the financial guidelines of the LSS). See http://www.lss.bc.ca/legal_aid/law_line.asp for more information.
Dial-a-Law
604-687-4680 or 1-800-565-5297 outside the Lower Mainland or www.dialalaw.org
Pre-recorded tape messages offering practical information on the law.
The Lawyer Referral Service
604-687-3221 or 1-800-663-1919 outside the Lower Mainland.
Referrals to lawyers by legal issue. Lawyers charge only $25.00 fee for half-hour consultation. During this time fees are negotiated, but some well-organized questions can get answers.
