Our History and Organization
The Law Students’ Legal Advice Program (LSLAP) was established in 1969 by students at the UBC Faculty of Law. Originally operating as a summer clinic called Vancouver Inner-City Services, this was later expanded to include a small number of clinics operating year-round. In 1978, the program was incorporated as a non-profit, the Greater Vancouver Law Students’ Legal Advice Society (GVLSAS), to provide free legal advice and representation for those who cannot afford it.

Today, LSLAP is formally governed by the GVLSAS Board, c
omprised of lawyers and professionals in the community. The day-to-day operations are run by law students at the UBC Peter A. Allard School of Law. Our six-person student executive leads a dedicated group of student volunteers and paid summer clinicians. All legal work done by students is overseen by the program's three supervising lawyers.
