Dedicated to providing free legal advice since 1969.

The Law Students' Legal Advice Program (LSLAP) is a non-profit run by law students at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. We provide free legal advice and representation to clients in the Lower Mainland who would otherwise be unable to afford legal assistance.

We have filled our appointments for the 2024 fall program. New intakes will resume in January. Please see our referral list if you need immediate legal support.

If you have an open file with us, please reach out to your clinician by email or leave a message on our phone lines, which are open from Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We operate most of our clinics in-person, with some remote options. There are appointment times during evenings and weekends if needed. Please note that LSLAP cannot give legal advice over the telephone.

Our History and Organization
The Law Students’ Legal Advice Program (LSLAP) was established in 1969 by students at the UBC Faculty of Law. Originally operating as a summer clinic called Vancouver Inner-City Services, this was later expanded to include a small number of clinics operating year-round. In 1978, the program was incorporated as a non-profit, the Greater Vancouver Law Students’ Legal Advice Society (GVLSAS), to provide free legal advice and representation for those who cannot afford it.

Today, LSLAP is formally governed by the GVLSAS Board, comprised of lawyers and professionals in the community. The day-to-day operations are run by law students at the UBC Peter A. Allard School of Law. Our six-person student executive leads a dedicated group of student volunteers and paid summer clinicians. All legal work done by students is overseen by the program's three supervising lawyers.
